September 4 should be made a national holiday, because it is on this date in 1981 that Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter was born. While we’re working on our change.org petition to make it an official thing celebrated nationwide, Beyoncé was so kind as to give us a gift for her birthday. The benevolence of it all. The singer made a major photo dump on her official website, chronicling the highlights of her 37th year, two weeks after she celebrated her 38th birthday. 60 photos of the last year living as Beyoncé — we don’t deserve.
The gorgeous shots show Beyonce and her family at memorable events these past 365 days. There are shots of her and her husband, Mr. Beyoncé (also known as Jay-Z in certain circles) vacationing in Sardinia, hanging out with Leonardo DiCaprio at his birthday, and of course, plenty of photos of Blue Ivy, Sir, and Rumi. We were also given the gift of Beyonc´é dressed up as Lisa Bonet, which effectively broke the Internet.
Last Halloween, Beyoncé famously dressed up as legendary Olympic runner Florence Griffith Joyner, but it turns out she also had this Lisa Bonet costume in her photo archives, just waiting to be revealed to the world. And we got not just one Beyoncé Bonet (Yonet?) look but two. The first shows the singer in an all-black ensemble with a velvet bra top decorated with black tassels. The other is a recreation of a look Bonet wore on the red carpet alongside Lenny Kravitz — you know, that iconic one with the grey top hat. Bey’s twins Rumi and Sir also make an appearance in one of the photos, and yes, it’s supremely adorable.
Seriously, she basically shut down the internet on Thursday night, to the point where Lisa Bonet was trending on Twitter. And the reactions are splendid:
Beyoncé shared all 60 images from her birthday retrospective with the caption: “I had an incredible Bday! I’m grateful for every breath. I thank God for all of my blessings, my wins, and my losses. I thank God for all of you! I would have posted earlier but I had work to do. I gotta job baaaaby. Here is your B at 37.” Turns out our B at 37 is fantastic — and we expect our B at 38 to be even better.
